Data Stored Locally
SlashNote stores all notes locally on your device in an SQLite database (~/Library/Application Support/SlashNote/notes.db). Voice audio is processed entirely on-device using WhisperKit and never leaves your Mac. App preferences are stored in macOS UserDefaults. API keys are stored in the encrypted macOS Keychain. We have no access to your notes or local data.
Data Sent to Services
When you use AI features, an anonymous UUID and your AI prompt text are sent to our backend (Supabase), which processes requests via the Replicate API (Anthropic Claude model). If you provide your own API key, prompts are sent directly to Replicate or Anthropic under your account. Purchase data (subscription status, transaction history) is sent to Apphud for validation. Anonymous usage analytics are collected via Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Amplitude — these include feature usage events and crash reports with no personally identifiable information.
Voice Input
Voice input is processed entirely on-device using WhisperKit. Voice model files are downloaded from HuggingFace. No audio data is sent to any server.
AI Features
SlashNote offers three AI providers: /note Cloud (default — Anthropic Claude via Replicate API), Replicate (direct API, requires your own key), and Anthropic (direct API, requires your own key). When using AI features, your prompt text and any embedded images are sent to the selected provider. AI features are optional.
Analytics
SlashNote uses Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, and Amplitude for anonymous usage analytics and crash reporting. These services collect feature usage events (e.g., note created, AI used), app lifecycle events, device type, and macOS version. No personally identifiable information or note content is collected. No advertising identifiers are used.
MCP Server & Note-Loop
The MCP server runs locally on your Mac and allows external AI agents (such as Claude or ChatGPT) to read, create, modify, and delete your notes. The /note-loop feature can execute tasks via Terminal on your behalf. Both features are disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled by you. When enabled, your note content is transmitted to the connected AI provider.
System Permissions
SlashNote may request: Microphone (voice-to-text, on-device only), Accessibility (shake gesture detection, mouse events only), and Apple Events (/note-loop Terminal launch). You can revoke any permission in System Settings at any time.
Third-Party Services
SlashNote integrates with: Supabase (AI backend), Replicate (AI model API), Anthropic (AI model API), Apphud (purchases), Apple StoreKit (payments), Firebase/Google (analytics & crashes), Amplitude (analytics), and HuggingFace (voice model downloads).
Your Rights
Under GDPR (EU/EEA) and CCPA (California), you have the right to access, delete, or request portability of your data. We do not sell your personal information. Your notes are stored locally and you can access or delete them at any time. To exercise your rights, contact support@slashnote.app.
App Store
Purchases are processed through the Mac App Store. Apple's privacy policy applies to purchase transactions.
